An insightful look at the Michael Jackson phenomena

Dr. Debra Holland has posted a thoughtful analysis of the public reaction surrounding Michael Jackson's life and death. However one feels about him, the article is worth a read. Check it out here.

NOTE: Sorry, the link was wonky earlier. I think it's fixed now.

Thanks for sharing that. I myself didn't get the hype. I guess I'd be one who would prefer to remember the younger years with the Jackson 5. Then again I am much more into books than music! And not much into celebrities!

Nice post. Michael Jackson was a troubled person who seemed to have lost his was. I don't think he ever really had a childhood and was in some way trying to retrieve it. Allegations of misconduct are just that, allegations. Nothing was proven and when big money is involved, who knows. What may have been innocent in his mind and in reality, could appear otherwise to others. His early death is a shame in the sense that he was young and was truly a great talent. I feel sorry for his children for whom he seemed to care a great deal. The press coverage was a bit overdone, but we do have the option of not watching.

I think the whole Michael Jackson coverage was way too much. It is too bad he died, but he wasn't a saint and even though he was a talented musician, his death did not effect the fate of the world.
